Frostfire's Foiled Gambit (20-29)

Rogue Morality Mission

This folded letter is splattered in blood, but doesn't appear to be opened. Opening the letter, it appears to have been written by Frostfire, small time thug and recent leader of the Outcasts.

The note reads:

'You owe me a big one and I'm calling it in, Mangle. I need some of your goons to help me pull a big one on the Sky Raiders. They've got some kind of weapon they split in half with their partners, The Council. Looks like they've got a falling out and are collecting on each other. While they're duking it out, I'm going to slip in and grab that gizmo. Once I've got it, I'll sell it to the highest bidder and then get the heck out of these horrible Rogue Isles. Help me out, and I'll be out of your hair forever. Or your horns, that is - Frostfire'

It looks like Frostfire's message never got to its intended recipient, but did get to the person who could use it the most.

You could find out more about this supposed weapon and possible buyers, then beat Frostfire to the punch by taking it for yourself!

Briefing

This plan of Frostfire's doesn't seem that hare-brained after all. Even though it sounds like he wants to go back to Paragon City - that's his own problem. You, however, want a bigger slice of the pie, and this is a wonderful opportunity.

You find out this weapon is called a Dimensional Raygun - a prototype of a weapon in the works. Supposedly if you fire a bullet from this gun, it will shoot out from the barrel and teleport to the exact same spot in another dimension, continuing its course. It would theoretically allow a person to shoot someone else in another dimension.

There are a lot of buyers out there for this - Longbow is up there, but above them is a man named James S. Thompson.

Currently the Sky Raiders and Council are fighting over possession of the weapon - with Frostfire trying to outsmart them both. If you can stow away one in of the boats that head out towards the Sky Raider's ocean platform, you can likely sneak in past all the ruckus going on between and grab the parts you need.

WARNING: This is a Morality Mission. Completing this mission will change your alignment to Rogue. This means that the people of Paragon City and the Rogue Isle will no longer see you as a Villain. Becoming a Rogue means you will be able to move between Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.

  • Stow away on a ship going to the Sky Raider platform!

You make plans to get onto a boat going for the Sky Raider platform - all that's left is to rendezvous with the boat and make your move once you arrive!


Unnecessary Solicitation

You'll have to prepare yourself, as you'll be walking into a large firefight once you get out of that cargo ship.

Mission Objective(s)

The boat stops, only to have a horde of Sky Raiders invade it. It turns out you were on the boat carrying the gun - only it's locked in a secured safe. And the Sky Raiders have the sole key to that safe!
You'll have to get that key to get the gun and your payday!

  • Steal the Dimensional Raygun!
    • Get topside into the Sky Raider base to get the key to the safe!
    • Get back into the ship and take down Mangle!
    • Open the safe back in the beginning of the ship!
    • Get to the Sky Raider base and take down Hollow Point!
    • Use the radio at the top of the Sky Raider base to call Longbow!

Everything is done - Longbow should be arriving to fight Wyvern and you have the weapon - time to make your way out!

Missing Key
You looked through the supposed location of the key to the safe only to find it missing!

You found only ragged claw marks along where the key should been - telltale signs of the villain Mangle.

He's probably on his way now to getting that gun for himself!

Council: It's over, you fools! We've got the codes!
Sky Raiders: Nothing is over! Not yet... Not while we're still standing!
Sky Raiders: Call this a change in the agreement!
Council: We had a deal! You can't back away from it now!

Mangle: This is but a temporary alliance. Remember that fact well! You all will be beneath my attention soon enough...
Mangle: Ah, so Character, trying to take this for yourself? Funny, I should've thought of that!

During combat

Mangle: You can't play by your own rules forever, Character. Soon enough you have to choose!
Mangle: Council, Sky Raiders, they're all small-time. You're making a big mistake in crossing me here!
Mangle: This isn't over, Character! Even if I fall here, I have far greater plans in the works!

Defeated

Mangle: We'll meet again... one day...!

Safe Key
Upon his defeat, Mangle teleported away, dropping the key to the safe nearby. He let out these final words as he was whisked away...

No one could understand - not you, not the others in the Isles, or those do-gooders in Paragon. No one could understand the task in front of me - and no one can stop me. We'll meet again one day, Character, and on that day you will wish you had never crossed me!

The Dimensional Raygun
You pull out this strange device from the safe - it's somewhat heavy, with a large tank attached to the top part of the rifle. This has to be the dimensional raygun that everyone is after!

Moments after retreiving the device, an alarm goes off within the safe, followed by the sound of someone speaking on a radio - from within the safe!

I assumed you'd be here, Character. My name is Hollow Point, and I'm here to ensure no one gets this weapon. I could have simply destroyed it myself... but I figured it would lure someone like you along - two birds with one stone, you see.

I'd sit tight if I were you - I've called in some... friends from Wyvern to bomb this place in moments. Enjoy your last moments!

Judging by the radio, Hollow Point must be somewhere nearby - most likely around the Sky Raider base, waiting to be lifted out before the bombing!

Hollow Point: There's no such thing as 'too much'. We'll wipe this place off the face of the map - especially with the explosives they're hiding in this base.
Hollow Point: Ah, Character... Trying to defy your fate, are you? I'll make sure you get what's coming to you!

During combat

Hollow Point: If you had any sense of justice, you'd drop the weapon and accept your fate!
Hollow Point: No one's willing to take that step to stop people like you, Character. No one but me!

Defeated

Hollow Point: I might be defeated... but the strike WILL happen... and you'll be destroyed with everyone else here!

Hollow Point's Justice
Hollow Point's medi-porter whisked him away, though he dropped a document detailing the plan of this operation - just like he said. Wyvern will be here shortly to bomb carpet bomb this entire place - with you in it!

It also seems the Sky Raider base has a secret - a small nuclear device! It's unclear what they planned to do with it but this document shows that the base is carrying it.

Even if you were to get out of here, you would still be caught in the nuclear blast when Wyvern's bombing run comes through!

However... Longbow has been known to keep Wyvern in their place. To keep yourself out of this mess, you could radio in Longbow, showing them Wyvern's plan - it will no doubt cause them to send in their own men to intercept Wyvern - allowing you to slip out in the process!

  • Everyone has a story Frostfire - not everyone has money for it.
Just... listen... I get that weapon into Longbow's hands... they'll see... they'll see that I can change.
And I want to change... I'm sick and tired of being... of the way they all look at me! Of who I've become!
  • Save the sob story, Frostfire. You want this instead? Pay up.
I don't have that kind of money! Come on... can't you just help out... someone for once?
  • That's not what I do Frostfire. Now beat it, I'm not sticking around.
Frostfire regains his composure and lunges to attack you!
  • Of course...!

Frostfire: If that's how it is... then I have to push forward... no one... not YOU... not ARACHNOS... NOBODY... will stop me from getting out of here!

During combat

Frostfire: You're really starting to be a pain, Character. Just hand... over... the... GUN!
Frostfire: I said - GIVE ME THE GUN!
Frostfire: Look, I don't want to keep pulling these same jobs.
Frostfire: I'm getting sick of it!
Frostfire: Ugh! Come on... hold on... h-hold on!

Frostfire: I just... wanted... to be a cop...


Debriefing

You return safely from the Sky Raider platform, having obtained the Dimensional Raygun and stopped a small nuclear explosion from going off.

You contact James S. Thompson, who sends one of his representatives to pick up the gun and deliver your money - you notice that he has paid you extra, with a note that's attached to the wad of cash...

Thank you for your work, Character. Take this extra cash as my... appreciation for keeping this operation between the two of us.
