Setting Up Your In-game Experience

Customizations

City of Heroes offers far more customization than most games, especially most MMOs. However, it was written before Lua scripting came on the scene, and CoX never adopted UI scripting.

Here's a couple of customizations you should be aware of when playing City of Heroes.

Quickchat Menu

What does a Quickchat Menu allow? Practically anything which can be parsed as a slash command. The game's default quickchat.mnu has emotes, including costume change emotes, in it.

A Quickchat Menu was developed expressly for Rebirth, containing additional emotes developed for Rebirth, and a few other goodies. It is served via our Discord, under the #files-and-links channel. The latest version of this file is at https://discord.com/channels/568451050181492736/739993754949124166/889292480879665173. After you download Rebirth's quickhat.mnu file, and while you're not logged into the game, place this file in the following path under where you installed City of Heroes: <CoX-Rebirth-directory>\data\texts\English\Menus. You may need to create those sub-folders if they don't already exist.

Keybinds file

Many people don't alter the default keybinds file provided with City of Heroes, however I have made extensive modifications to mine. For this reason, you may see things I trigger without clicks that you expect to have to click, such as Location AoE powers. This doesn't mean the default is wrong, it just means I like my custom setup better. I'm not going to explain altering the keybinds in by newbie guides; it is a more advanced topic.
