Alignment Merit
Overview
Alignment Merits are a special salvage awarded as part of the Alignment system introduced in Issue 18. Initially there were two types of alignment merits: "Hero Alignment Merits" and "Villain Alignment Merits", but Rebirth Issue 2 introduced "Rogue Alignment Merits" and "Vigilante Alignment Merits". Starting in Rebirth Issue 5 Alignment merits can be traded.
Obtaining Merits
There are several ways to obtain alignment merits:
- Complete Morality Missions
- Purchase at a rate of 50 Reward Merits and 20 million Inf for each Alignment Merit
- By completing a Signature Story Arc episode for the first time (once per character, must have reinforced alignment at least once)
- By completing any Signature Story Arc episode which has already been completed once (once a week, must have reinforced alignment at least once)
- All completed Signature Story Arc episodes share the same reward table, meaning you can only earn an alignment merit once a week regardless of how many completed Signature Story Arc episodes you play
- By trading for them with another player, or purchasing from another player on the Auction House
Spending Merits
Alignment Merits can be spent at Alignment Vendors to purchase most Recipes, including Purple Recipes and PvP Recipes.
- The Alignment Vendor for heroes is the storage box next to B.O.T.L.E.R. in Fort Trident.
- The Alignment Vendor for villains is the trash next to Trashcan in The Crucible.
- The Alignment Vendor for vigilantes is the Vigilante Merit Vendor in King's Row on the west side of the plaza in front of Paragon Police Department.
- The Alignment Vendor for rogues is the Rogue Merit Vendor in Cap Au Diable to the south east of the Black Market
B.O.T.L.E.R., Trashcan and the Rogue/Vigilante Merit Vendors are also the contacts for converting Reward Merits and Inf to Alignment Merits.
Availability was originally based on the cost of the recipe from a Merit Vendor in Reward Merits, but due to an economy update this is no longer true.
- Uncommon Recipes are not available for purchase.
- Recipes from the Rare Enemy Drop or Mission Drop Pool are 1 merit.
- Recipes from the Random Rare Recipe Roll (Formerly Pools C and D) are 2 merits.
- PVP Recipes are 30 for a standard and 35 merits for a special recipe.
- Very Rare (Purple) Recipes are 20 for a standard and 25 merits for a special recipe.
- Winter Enhancements and Overwhelming Force are 8 for a standard and 9 merits for a special recipe.*
- Heroes and Villains and Rogues and Vigilantes Super Packs can be purchased for 3 or 5 merits with the matched alignment being cheaper (Heroes can purchase the Hero and Villain packs for 3 merits)
- 10 Enhancement Converters can be purchased for 1 merit and 2.5 million Inf.
* not all Winter Enhancements are available.
There are also some alignment exclusive items:
- Heroes and Villains may also purchase 4 uses of Team Transport Power for 1 merit and 1.5 million Inf.
- Heroes and Villains may also purchase 5 uses of the Signature Summon Power for 1 merit and 1.5 million Inf.
Historical
- Prior to Rebirth Issue 5, Alignment merits were character locked and could not be traded.
- Prior to Rebirth Issue 2, Alignment Merits could only be earned and possessed while a character maintained their respective alignments (Hero for Hero Alignment Merits, Villain for Villain Alignment Merits). Changing alignments would forfeit all unspent Alignment Merits.
- Prior to Rebirth Issue 2, the first time you completed a morality mission for a given alignment you were awarded 50 reward merits instead of an alignment merit.
Availability was originally based on the cost of the recipe from a Merit Vendor in Reward Merits prior to their cost updates in Rebirth Issue 2.
- Items that cost less than 100 Reward Merits are not available for purchase.
- Items that cost 100-199 Reward Merits cost 1 Alignment Merit.
- Items that cost 200-299 Reward Merits cost 2 Alignment Merits.
- Items that cost 300 or more Reward Merits do not exist, but would presumably follow the same pattern.
- Items that cannot be purchased with Reward Merits have a special pricing scheme (purples, PVP IOs, Respecs, costume parts, etc).
